THE PARTY Taste of the South gala brought a little bit of Southern hospitality to the Washington Hilton, celebrating the nonprofit’s 35th anniversary. The sold-out gala gathered philanthropists to support 13 military and veteran related charities across the South in “A Salute to the Stars and Stripes”. In typical fashion, the event’s spread was southern fare with dishes including fried catfish, jambalaya, barbeque, biscuits, waffles, key lime cookies and of course, iced tea. Guests also had the opportunity to take home some free swag.
BEST IN SHOW The featured charity of this year’s gala was the Patriot Foundation. Located in Pinehurst, NC the foundation was established in 2003 to provide support and financial aid to families of service members who have been killed, wounded or injured in the Global War on Terrorism since 9/11. Since it was founded, the Patriot Foundation has given over 1,200 scholarships along with providing child care for spouses returning to school.
