Erin and Alex said “I do” with a gorgeous gilded celebration at the landmark Rookery building.

Giant trumpet vases of tropical greenery comprised the couple’s wow-worthy centerpiece.

Low vases of magenta blooms looked stunning next to the couple’s gold and marbled table numbers.

Elysia Root translated the couple’s vision into a stunning modern creation featuring a bottom-tier of marbled fondant inspired by the venue’s Carrara marble interior.

Alex Murray, a personal trainer, had caught Erin Quinn’s eye on several occasions at the gym. After she saw a picture of him on the gym’s Facebook page, she did some careful “internet research” (Facebook stalking!) and eventually worked up the courage to introduce herself—after a 10-mile treadmill run. “I was too exhausted to feel nervous,” remembers Erin. A romantic Valentine’s Day proposal in 2015 sealed the deal.

The historic Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Rookery building set the scene for the couple’s superpersonal nuptials. Erin wrote the entire wedding ceremony, and the couple wrote their own heartfelt vows—a detail they say received more compliments than anything else on their wedding day.

Erin slipped into a pair of Betsey Johnson flats embellished with quirky cat faces for the reception—a cute nod to the couple’s beloved cats, Ada and Lola. Planner Melissa Samek enlisted Hello Darling florals to transform the art deco venue into a colorful modern setting, with towering gold vases of philodendron and monastera leaves, and bold floral and marble accents throughout. Though the pair celebrated with a mini-getaway in the Low Country, they plan to escape this year’s Chicago winter with an adventurous international trip abroad.
