THE PARTY More than 800 local philanthropists donned their black-tie best and headed to The Ritz-Carlton for the 11th annual Children’s Ball where they enjoyed a night dancing and auction prizes, raising $3 million to support the Children’s National Health System. On top of the entertainment, guests also indulged in a dinner of casoncelli filled with chickpeas, ramps and lobster with a roasted dry aged beef topped with artichokes, peas and mint courtesy of Michelin-star chef Nick Stefanelli.
THE PEOPLE Bret Baier, host of Fox News Channel’s “Special Report with Bret Baier” whose son received treatment at Children’s National, emceed the event for what was his ninth year in a row. He was joined by Norah O’Donnell, co-host of “CBS This Morning”, who hosted the live auction featuring a variety of exciting prizes. Other notable guests in attendance included Muriel Bowser, mayor of Washington D.C., and Congressman John Delaney of Maryland.
BEST IN SHOW The theme of this year’s Children’s Ball was “Pioneering the Future,” representing the hospital’s mission to take their premiere pediatric care and research to new heights. Since the inaugural Children’s Ball in 2007, the event has raised over $29 million to contribute to innovations in research, medical care and policy advocacy efforts at Children’s National benefiting children and their families.
