Wine on!
Oenophiles are sniffing around a 37-acre Malibu estate called Rocky Oaks, featuring a rolling vineyard and a 9,000-square-foot Tuscan-style home that’s set to be completed by spring. At $65 million, it’s one of the most expensive parcels currently on the market in L.A. County. Located 2,600 feet above sea level on Kanan Dume Road, the property boasts wraparound views of the Pacific and the Valley.
The home and the vineyard, built by Howard Leight, a business mogul who made his fortune in earplugs, has been producing Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Rosé—2,400 cases as of last year—under the Malibu Rocky Oaks Estate Vineyards label (maliburockyoaks.com) since 2006.
The purchase price, says Coldwell Banker Previews International real estate agent Sally Forster Jones, who also currently reps Candy Spelling’s Holmby Hills mansion, nets both the spoils of the acreage as well as the intellectual property rights to the biz, which includes a flexible contract with a processing and bottling provider in Camarillo.
